REPEAT client John Woodward, Moolaboola Angus, Stoneyford, Vic, paid the top price of $7500 at the fourth annual Bull Oak Well Angus bull sale at Willalooka on Friday.
Mr Woodward, a breeder of prime Angus cattle, had also paid the top price of $8000 at the Bull Oak Well sale two years ago for excellent sire Plugga.
He said he had been very impressed by Plugga's "do-ability", saying he had bred some "ripper" calves from him.
This year he bought Bull Oak Well Elevator J19, which had been used in Bull Oak Well's breeding program. Elevator J19 weighed at 880 kilograms, but was only 42kg at birth. He had EBVs in the top 5 per cent for 400-day weight and was in the top 10pc for 600-day weight and carcaseweight. A May 2013-drop, he was sired by Coonamble Elevator E11 and his dam was Bull Oak Well Sunbeam A47.
Mr Woodward said he was "in the top end of his calibre".
"He's got the thickness and shape that I'm after, especially for my country," he said. "I've got hard, stony country, and the cattle have got to be able to handle those conditions. I find shorter, thicker-type cattle better-suited to my country."
